The Brief

To enhance the energy performance and overall sustainability of a ‘Kent Farmhouse’ for a sustainability-conscious client.

The Solution

Shedding light on key areas such as oil boiler conversion, embodied carbon in heating systems, solar technology integration, hot water system arrangements, wastewater heat recovery, well water and rainwater usage.

The Result

The Farmhouse’s resilience increased by implementing efficient water collection and filtration systems, significantly reducing its reliance on freshwater sources, conserving a precious natural resource.

The Brief

To enhance the energy performance and overall sustainability of a ‘Kent Farmhouse’ for a sustainability-conscious client; researching various upgrades and retrofit technologies and exploring alternatives to the conventional boiler.

The Solution

We shed light on key areas such as oil boiler conversion, embodied carbon in heating systems, solar technology integration, hot water system arrangements, wastewater heat recovery, well water and rainwater usage, as well as the environmental impacts of heat pump technologies.

Love Design Studio also considered the potential impacts of the various heat pump technologies on local fauna, flora, and ecological considerations.

The Result

We recognised the value of utilising alternative water sources to reduce strain on the local water supply and increase the Farmhouse's resilience. We researched the viability of utilising well water and rainwater for non-potable purposes like irrigation, toilet flushing, and laundry. By implementing efficient water collection and filtration systems, the Farmhouse could significantly reduce its reliance on freshwater sources, conserving a precious natural resource.
