Energy & Retrofit
Our expertise lies in delivering comprehensive and strategic energy assessments, identifying opportunities for optimisation and efficiency enhancement in new and existing buildings.
We're committed to actively supporting the UK's journey to net zero carbon that’s why energy and retrofit solutions stand at the core of Love Design Studio's service offerings. Our team have a genuine dedication to being part of the transformative efforts that shape a sustainable, carbon-neutral landscape for future generations.
At Love Design Studio, collaboration is fundamental to our ethos. We engage seamlessly with landlords, developers, architects, social housing providers, housing associations, and local planning authorities, offering expertise in energy strategy and net zero carbon consultancy.
Our portfolio includes significant contributions to residential and non-residential net zero carbon projects, exemplified by our work on iconic developments such as the Barbican Estate.
We've also played a key role in planning projects including those referred to the Greater London Authority (GLA).
Love Design Studio supports UK landlords in meeting Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) by strategising and implementing energy-efficient solutions. Our goal is to elevate properties to achieve at least a 'B' rating on the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) scale to meet 2030 targets. Through energy assessments, retrofit strategies, and sustainable design practices, we assist landlords in enhancing energy performance, ensuring compliance, and contributing to a greener built environment.
Energy & Retrofit Services
-
Love Design Studio will develop a bespoke energy strategy for the scheme and carry out calculations in accordance with the Standard Assessment Procedure to determine energy performance and carbon emission reduction, all which will be summarised in an Energy Statement report.
-
Love Design Studio conducts a desktop review of building information and a site visit to understand existing features and building services. A 3D Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) or Dynamic Simulation Model (DSM) model of the building will then be constructed to review existing building energy performance and EPC rating before running several iterations to test the potential improvements in energy efficiency and EPC rating for various building upgrades options.
-
During the initial stages of a project, Love Design Studio can provide guidance on how to achieve a net zero carbon design through reduction of energy demand using passive design measures and incorporation of renewable energy technologies to provide clean energy and offset remaining operational emissions. As the design progresses, a 3D model will be developed alongside a CIBSE TM54 calculation to better understand the likely energy performance of the scheme accounting for both regulated and unregulated energy consumption and associated carbon emissions.
-
Where clients are considering implementing energy efficiency measures, Love Design Studio can perform a technical review of the existing building and calculate potential operational expenditure (OPEX) savings associated with a range of agreed building improvements. The capital expenditure (CAPEX) for each building improvement or group of improvements is then estimated based on agreement of the scope of works and review of installation contractor quotations to allow calculation of the simple and net present value payback period for each option.
-
As a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor and Low Carbon Energy Assessor, Love Design Studio can undertake energy assessments and provide Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for commercial and residential buildings.
-
For commercial building refurbishment projects, Love Design Studio is able to support the wider design team in optimising improvements in energy efficiency and reduction in energy demand and carbon emissions in its role as Non-Domestic Energy Assessor.
-
During early-stage design, Love Design Studio can provide guidance on building services strategy and perform preliminary system sizing calculations for dwellings to support initial cost analysis and emission savings estimates.
