UGF score
The Brief
To carry out carbon emission (Standard Assessment Procedure, SAP) calculations for the two two-storey dwellings proposed for the site. Also, to advise on required urban greening coverage across the site through landscaping, green walls and green roofs and verify through an urban greening factor (UGF) calculation that the Site could achieve an UGF score in excess of 0.4.
The Solution
Provided guidance to the design team on the energy strategy for the scheme to help deliver significant energy and carbon emission savings. After initial workshops to review potential solutions, Love Design Studio carried out SAP calculations and reviewed sustainability policies to ensure Local Policy requirements were met.
The Result
In accordance with the London Plan energy hierarchy, high levels of insulation and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery units were included alongside air source heat pumps and solar photovoltaic panels to achieve a cumulative on-site carbon emissions saving of 68% against the Part L 2021 Notional dwelling.
The design includes extensive green roofs, hedges, green walls and permeable paving to ensure the UGF score exceeds the 0.4 target.
